About Bishop Auckland Golf Club
Bishop Auckland Golf Club was established in 1894 and is situated in parkland surrounding the Bishops Palace and the River Wear.
Throughout its history the club has attracted some top golfing stars and sporting celebrities. As early as 1906, James Braid, British Open Champion and Harry Vardon US Open Champion played the course. Others include, US Open Champion John Daly, Sir Bobby Robson and Alan Shearer.
We are also proud to have both past and present members who have played for England Boys ( David Oughton in 19721) and County Championship players (Brian Hedely and Tom Atkinson in 1970/1972).
The Club has evolved into one of the North East’s premium courses and provides a stern test for all golfing abilities.
Bishop Auckland Golf Club is a registered Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC)
This allows local amateur sports clubs to register with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and benefit from a range of tax reliefs, including Gift Aid and Rates. Open to the whole community, it means we have:
- Membership that is open to all without discrimination
- Facilities that are open to all members without discrimination
- Fees that do not represent a significant obstacle to membership or use of facilities.
